Teenage boy arrested following city centre incident

Police arrested a teenage boy after an incident in Norwich city centre at the weekend.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested in St Stephen’s Street, Norwich, shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday evening (15 March 2025) on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, possession of a knife and failing to comply with a dispersal order to leave a specified area.

He was arrested after officers were called to Castle Quarter shortly after 9pm on Saturday (15 March 2025) after receiving a report that a group of teenage boys were fighting.

The 17-year-old was taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, and later released on police bail until 12 June 2025 while the investigation continues.

In addition, officers are still trying to establish the facts around reports that a man aged in his 20s had been stabbed last Wednesday (12 March 2025) in the Pilling Park Road area of the city.

In a separate incident, a woman aged in her 30s was arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with an incident in Magdalen Street shortly before 4.30pm last Monday (10 March 2025). Police were called to reports four men and a woman were fighting. She was questioned and has been bailed until 11 June.

Officers do not believe these incidents are linked and work is ongoing – examining CCTV footage, following up several lines of enquiry and taking witness statements - as part of the investigations.

Inspector Kerry Woodbine said: “These incidents are entirely separate, but I know people may feel concerned. As the public would expect, we’re using additional police resources and powers, such as dispersal notices and community protection warnings. These can stop people involved in causing a nuisance, an anti-social behaviour issue or from fighting around the Haymarket area.

“We’re also issuing community orders to prevent known offenders from associating with each other or entering a particular location. Youth antisocial behaviour, street drinking and associated ASB and violence are our neighbourhood priorities, and we continue to work closely with community safety partners to address these issues.
